There is a program on the net that will allow you to recover the CD key out of the registry, but it has to decode the encoded key. I know in previous versions, i.e. Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME, the key was also kept in the registry database. I would start with a program called Bellarc myself, as it prints a report, which contains the CD key, but I am not sure if it works on XP or not. The CD key itself is not printed on a registration sleeve, but is rather located on a sticker that is normally attached to a separate piece of paper, especially with Dell machines.
