If the freezing is during surfing and you use IE, I forgot to
mention to try the IE repair tool. I'd need to know your OS
and browser version to tell you how.

First; a PC freezing up is 99% chance software/OS. Just
reformat, start over. It will probably fix your problems.

(Or there is a host of other things you can do that MIGHT work
before reformatting).  FULL scandisk in DOS AND in windows;
defrag; registry checker (scanreg); system file checker
(depending on OS); disable what is running in the background
at start up; empty your windows temp folder; empty the
temporary internet files folder (in explorer so "contentIE.5"
can be deleted); and diagnostic software that may find the
problem if the above doesn't.

You also should check for "AdWare" and "Spy-ware" since these
things have been known to screw PC's up a bit. "SpyBot S&D"
is about the best for removing these things.

Hi All
We are having problems with our current computer.. as it seems
to be freezing
alot lately..
My husband suggested taking it in to our locale computer
tech.. and having it
repaired..
he would then use it.. and he would purchase a new computer
for me/tower
only..
as I have a good monitor and keyboard..

This is what we presently have
Pent. 3
866 MH Processor
256 Megs RAM
8.4 Gigs H.D.
8 Meg Video card
Windows 98SE
Also DSL.. for internet.. from our local Phone company..

I would like to upgrade .. this is my question.. what
suggestions can you
make
to make my search easier.. as I am clueless.. want something
faster..

Would a ready made one be the answer.. or should I have one
made for me?
This that I have had been made for us..

What can I expect to pay?

Thanks for any and all suggestions..

Liz
