PCWorks: Slow Promise Ultra tx2 card

I have a Dell system with a new Promise Ultra TX2 133 card attached to a 30 gig Maxtor ATA 133 hard drive with XP installed.

XP just sits at the black screen with the progress bar running and running, but it never finishes, it sat like that for 10 minutes before I rebooted.

Are the MS drivers for the card preferred over the Promise drivers or vice versa?

Or is there another solution altogether?

The motherboard is an Intel Seattle 440BX.
