I have a different password question. I've had WinXP for over a year and
suddenly a couple weeks ago it started asking for a password when I turn the
computer on. I just leave it blank and hit OK and it loads, but why did it
just start asking me? I've tried a couple things but both times I locked my
self out completely and had to go into safe mode and do a restore.

Does anyone know a sure fire way to stop it asking for a password?
Method 1
1. Start -- Run, type control userpasswords2, and press enter.
2. Uncheck the check box "Users must enter a user name and password to use
this computer" option, and click Ok.

Method 2
If you have one user account and no password configured, Windows XP should
log you in automatically. Otherwise, you'll have to do the following:

1. Install the Windows XP version of TweakUI.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
2. Start TweakUI. Start -- Programs -- Powertoys for Windows XP.
3. Expand the Logon branch (click on the plus sign "+")
4. Click on Autologon. Check the box "Log on automatically at system
startup" option
5. Type your username and then click on "Set Password" button, enter your
password twice and click OK
6. Click Apply then OK again
