Sue, you never mentioned if USB is involved anywhere here. If
so, try use another type of connection. When I was using USB
devices to NW a DSL connection, I had all sorts of problems
exactly as you describe. I got an Ethernet DSL modem and only
used RJ45/CAT5 throughout, and even after reformatting or using a
new HD, NO setup is needed at all. After installing the NIC
drivers, everything is automatically "go".

I wouldn't trash you NW'ing plans, just use another type of NW
connections. If you have dialup anywhere on your PC, it can
interfere with a cable LAN or NW. If you haven't reformatted
before starting all this, you may have do to that. Since the
laptop is OK, it sounds like a config problem, although I can't
understand how the laptop can be OK, if you have to unplug and
plug back in the base unit. The simplest way is to put a NIC in
each computer, and have the NIC's connect to the router, then the
modem hooks into the rear of the router. If your PC is in a
different location, it MIGHT be a wireless problem. You could be
getting some interference from another wireless source (alarm,
cordless phone, RF remote controls, etc.). If possible (and you
still can't get it work), draw a diagram of the COMPLETE setup,
scan it, put it at your website, and post the URL.

Hi Everyone,
Well, despite my getting rid of Zone Alarm and turning off
all the but
the essentials at start up, I am still having trouble with my
computer
getting on to the network when I first start my computer in the
morning. I
have to physically unplug and then replug in the base unit. I
spent near 2
hours on the phone the other night with Microsoft tech support
and the guy
couldn't solve my problem. Does anyone have any thoughts on the
matter? My
cable company is Cox and I'm using Microsoft wireless networking.
The base
is through an ethernet cable and I have a laptop as well. I have
no
problems with the laptop. I thought about just going to a router
to share
the modem, but that's what the base station is so I figure I'd
get the same
problem. ANY help on this would be appreciated. I'm ready to
take
everything back and settle for (boo hoo) AO*ell on the painfully
slooooooooooow dial-up. :(

Sue :)
