I don't understand why the guy would say that. Unlike Win9X systems in WinXp it's difficult for a program to overwrite system files because they are protected. They are also backed up in a folder windows/system32/dllcache. If you look there you'll see a couple of thousand dll and other files. I think trying to do a second backup is non productive. I imagine you could copy the files if you used the recovery console which is one of the repair options if you boot from the cd.
