I was given instructions to find a file in C:\Windows called "hosts".....no
extensions....just hosts. When it was found I was told to send it to
notepad and view the entire file. All that should be in there, according to
what I was told is:
# Copyright (c) 1998 Microsoft Corp.
#
# end of file

If there was a list urls I was told to delete them all as they were
maliciously put there to redirect and hijack

I found quite a huge list of urls half of which had www names that appeared
to be porn sites...and a lot of others. I cannot, however, figure out how
to delete them. If I delete in Notepad I am then asked if I want to save
and I only have the choice to save as a txt file. That isn't what the hosts
file is...a text file. I noted that it is a Read only file.

My question is, how do I open that file (hosts), delete all those nasty url
addresses :-) and save that file back in Windows.

As background as to what brought this up, I contracted a tro*an vi*rus
through scripted stationery lists. I hadn't installed a certain security
patch (which is no installed) so the tr*jan that places 2 porn sites and 1
fake msn search site in your favorites seeped in on me. I have sucessfully,
and easily, removed all traces, installed the protecting patch etc. but this
added thing was sent to me to also do and I'm stumped on how to accomplish
it.

Thanks in advance !!
