The actual name is w32.blaster.worm and that computer will require the removal tool. The user of this computer is no up to that kind of speed to update her Norton. I put it is automatic for her and hope that helps. And Clint I knew your advice was correct and it always has been. I just seem to be a dollar short and a day late. Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Larry I guess my reply to your post on this was correct. ;-) I sent you the Norton link and the removal tool for the new "Blaster" worm is there. However the MS patch will not remove the worm or fix an infected PC. It is only a prophylaxis for the worm. You first have to run the removal tool. Now if it's something else other than this new Blaster worm, then you're going to have to do a full scan and let Norton identify it, get the CORRECT name, then get the removal tool.......and tell the owner of that PC to UPDATE EVERY DAY. If they would have, this of course would never have happened. If you can update Norton NOW, it should remove any infection on the computer. But it cannot do that with out of date definitions if it's a malicious code newer than the last definitions. -Clint ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Browning" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I have a friend with win XP Home and they got the Buffer RPC bug which shuts you down giving you 30 seconds or so. After installing the patch for that which is KB823980-x86-ENU. Norton came up with a worm bug that it could not do anything about and the message remains on the screen. Is there another fix for this? I seem to remember it being called W32worm.worm or something like that. It resides in C\windows\system32\w32worm.worm. I can not find it but Norton can.
