For some reason, this won't send. this is the 4th try.. Here goes..

Hi Ben ..

Hyperthreading sounds great.. Plus this new machine will be much fast to begin with. I currently have a 350..5 year old Gateway.. so S L O W.. is the word... and it only has 64 mb ram. and a 10 gb hard drive.. So it's "ancient".. in computer terms.. LOL

I just checked the Dell site.. and the computer isn't being shipped till the 17th. It says. "being processed".. so I have to wait.. Now, that I'm excited about it.. I hate waiting. LOL

I really appreciate the info. on how to wipe out the data.. I really do want to do this. so I have saved your email as well as printed it out.. Thanks.

Also, when I do get my new machine,, I plan to get anything off of this machine, and basically, I dont have alot. Just a few things. that I'm saving to floppys.. But there's nothing else.. Norton, I can re-install, Ad-aware, Adobe.. all that I can re- install.. So, it's just a matter of wipping the machine clean, and then how do I format it.. or reformat it..

The only thing I'm still stuck on.. is how to copy to a floppy - my address book from Netscape. For some strange reason, I can't seem to do this. and I want to copy that. as well as my bookmarks(favorites).. so that I can install them on the new machine.. Worse case scenerio. I have to type in everything. So it's not that much of a big deal. but it would be easier - if I could figure out how to just save-as.. But for some reason, I can't seem to do it. I have saved them in the past to floppys.. but haven't since I have the Netscape 7.0.. and that seems to be the kicker in this. I can't save anything.. SIGH

Can I go to Add/Remove programs. and get rid of all my netscape(mail) etc.. thats the most important thing to me.. and also my cookies of course..

And then - when you format/or reformat. whatever you do.. Do you do it thru Norton System works. registery.?? or is there a way, to get rid of it. with a program. thru Wilders site??

Thanks so much.
Helene

Hyperthreading is a way for one processor to act like two. You may not
notice it but if you run a lot of programs at one time, it's great and you
really never have to wait for a program to finish. You never get that hour
glass. I have the same processor on the machine I'm using right now and
really like it.

Reformatting would probably do for most people getting rid of data
especially if you are giving it to your niece who isn't going to run a data
recovery program on the hard drive. If you have especially sensitive info
though you can run a program like BCwipe on those files and it will do a
pretty good job. It's shareware but is fully functional for 30 days. I'd
use it or something like it on data files, mail, etc that you don't ever
want anyone to see and then just format the hard drive to erase the rest of
the stuff you don't care about. You can find BCwipe at
http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/bcwipe.htm . Once you install it, you get a
right click menu option to erase with BCwipe. The actual truth is the only
way to completely protect stuff from a determined person is to take a sledge
hammer to the hard drive.

If you are on a dial up, configuring your own connection is easy. When you
get there, we can give you step by step instructions and what information to
copy from your old computer and then how to set it up on the new machine.

So when is the new machine coming?
