Just want to add that I don't think the large companies ever give you a disk to just restore the OS, be it Windows 95, 98, XP or whatever. That might be a deal they have with Microsoft. If you were M$ would you want these disks floating around for all to use?
M$ might have a deal with the computer manufacturers where the OS is included in the entire System Restore package and which can only be used on the manufacturer's computers. To expect more from the manufacturer, be it Dell, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, etc is to expect too much.
