I thought it was only Win98 which had shutdown problems! My new laptop (Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz, 256 Mb RAM) preinstalled with XP Home, on several occasions has frozen solid at shutdown, often on the "Windows logging off" screen. Nothing I do will make it react, no amount of Ctrl-Alt-Del -- only option is to pull out the plug! But of course it continues to operate on the battery, and then the only way to switch off is to turn the darn thing upside down and disconnect the battery!
So much for what is supposed to be the most stable Windows OS yet! Has anyone else had this problem or can offer a solution?
