Is it possible that windows is doing the desktop cleanup and placing those in the seldom used folder. You can turn off the auto clean up by right clicking on the desktop, selecting properties, then Desktop tab and the Customize Desktop button. Uncheck the box near the bottom which will stop the auto clean of the desktop.
