I've never heard of a DVD player destroying DVD's, but I guess
it's "possible". If they have one that is doing this I'd
suggest to replace it. ;-) I mentioned before I had a CDROM
drive that its laser burned a hole through the case of the
drive! (In case anyone is wondering what site Helene is
talking about: http://321studios.com/ ). Here's some more
links here, http://www.chaplinsociety.com/

Be sure and tell her to be VERY CAREFUL when ordering any of
this type of software. Most of the sites are overseas, and
steal CC #'s on non-encrypted unsecured webpages, and never
even send you your order.  (This goes for ANY online order);
always right click the page where you give your CC# and look at
"properties" and BE SURE it says "encrypted SSL" or something
to that effect. In rare cases, the page CAN be SSL and not
have the "padlock icon" in IE. And, on the other hand, you CAN
have the padlock icon and the page may NOT be secure. So,
right clicking is the best way.

Hi Mike and Clint.

Mike, the reason my daughter wants to copy the DVDs.. is that
this way. in
case the machine "eats one".. they will not be lost.. (she's
got ALOT of
trilogys.. as well.. as full collections. and they cost alot of
money).

When she got married, last year.. we had the Video guy.. make
us 3 VCR tapes..
She realized afterwards - she wanted more.. so we copied
them.(no problem)..
onto a vcr tape..

She wants to be able to do the same thing.. with certain
DVD's.. that are
very expensive.

I know with VCR tapes.. if you truly want to save them.. and
not let anything
be taped over them.(you take off the little tab on the vcr
tape).. but even
still .. if your machine.. decides to 'eat one'.. then you lose
it
forever.(that has happened to me in the past too).

With DVDS.. there is no such tab.. and therefore.. if the
machine decides to
destroy it.(which does happen).. than the expensive DVD will be
lost forever.

CLINT.. Thanks so much for the site. I'm going to send it to my
sister.. so
she can check it out.. The program she did see.. was well over
a $100.00 and
she really didnt' want to spend that.. IF,, there is a free one
available.. So
thank you.

Thanks to both of you.
Helene
