Peter, strange I was thinking about to posting something on Sygate as well. They have no support and no email addresses at their site. They expect users to have to join and register at message boards to get help!! I'll never use their products again. This was all I could find on them, [EMAIL PROTECTED] and no replies yet.
I was using 5.0, and I tried 5.5 yesterday and I still have the same problem as before. My problem is it no longer blocks all traffic when the service is unloaded. This happened before, but that feature started working again. Several weeks ago the problem came back, and doesn't seem to be ever going to work properly again. Yes, the box IS checked "block all traffic when service is not loaded". Yet, when I right click the sys tray icon and unload Sygate by "exit firewall", I'm WIDE open, everything is open. This check box is in "options" and under the "security" tab. I'm not quite clear on the problem you're describing. When does it shut down, what happens exactly and what is happening at the time? Does the tray icon disappear and do you still have net access when the program shuts down? I was also having a problem of the tray icon disappearing, but a cont-alt-del would show it was still running. So try that and see if "smc.exe" is still running. 5.5 also has a couple or few more options under the "options" area, so they may want to check over that. I find 5.5 to very annoying because now when I right click and "block all" traffic (which I use a lot) I get that stupid prompt asking am "I sure I want to block all traffic". DUH. You may also want to try the "update" tab and update the signature file, maybe that will address your problem. I did that right after installing 5.5 and it had an update. (Well, get a load of this: now, mine is working ok again! I just tried to unload it and now it's blocking everything when not loaded as it should, since I have that option checked). -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Kaulback" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> A friend using Sygate Personal Firewall 5.5 on XP finds this version to shut down on it's own, the service quits completely. Previously on version 5 it was flawless. I am trying 5.5 right now, I was using 5 before, so I'm waiting to see if it cuts out. And it just did too. Has anyone else run into this with SPF? -- Peter Kaulback ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
