Speaking of Sun Java (which is that folder you mention), make sure you have the very latest version since a security problem was just discovered with it. It's fixed in the latest release.
Remember that every time you use the Google plugin from the toolbar, they are tracking your every move with their unique cookie. I've posted a couple of places where you get the extensions, there's over 160 of them by now I'm sure. I used about 30 or 40 of them when I had FF installed. BTW, does anyone know if FF has yet to be "officially released" or is it still in PR or RCx versions? Last I checked, RC2 was the latest. You don't miss the Windows Taskbar in full screen mode? Not the status bar, but the TASKbar. In FS mode in IE, you hover the Taskbar and it shows. In FF, it's just plain GONE and the only way to see your address bar at bottom and get to your open apps, etc., is to leave FS mode. That's the main reason why I didn't switch to FF. Also, the highlight function is rather ridiculous. I use this in IE all the time to mark VARIOUS MULTIPLE areas of a webpage. In FF, you can only mark ONE SENTENCE. I love the way it will mark all similar words, but only allowing the highlighting of one tiny area at a time, is bad for my use. -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://OrpheusComputing.com ) http://ComputersCustomBuilt.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harold B." Original problem: > Clicking the x (upper right hand corner of title bar), my > Firefox takes 5 seconds to close. Same thing happens when double-clicking the FF logo in upper left hand corner of title bar. When closing it by File > Exit, the closing is immediate. Closing IE or any other window, there is no problem. What's wrong with my FF title bar? Hi Harold, I don't have that time lag on my XP system using Firefox but I will install it on my 98 system shortly. You have a current system don't you, as in above 300 mhz cpu with more than 64 mb of ram? Are you using Java from Sun or the M$ JVM? --- Peter Kaulback Peter, I don't know if this is the information you need but I have my CPU with 536 Mhz, and 256mb RAM. I'm not aware of installing any Java, however I do notice a folder in my Program Files directory called Java. It has a sub folder in it called "j2re1.4.2_06" and inside that, a bunch of licenses. I don't know how it got there but there it is. I removed it to a "holding pen" and seems there is no difference in the general functioning of the computer. I guess my follow-up question is, what's that Java folder for? Interesting how one question leads to another; when are all the questions answered? And as I said earlier, the only extensions I added so far are: 1. Add Bookmarks Here, 2. Favorites Converter, and 3. View This Page in IE (all recommended by this group and which I think are very good). Note to Clint; I find this Firefox browser delightful. Great Google search in the upper right hand corner, very convenient "find on page" in lower left (when needed), and seems there are fewer popups. I welcome any other extension recommendations --- Harold. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
