It's unlikely the Yamaha driver will do any harm, but there's an easier way.

This should identify her sound card sufficiently to locate a driver.
If this is a standard PC we might be ale to identify the Sound Card given
the make and model.

Is there such a thing as a generic or universal sound card
driver for Windows 98 SE? A friend of mine who is blind
installed Windows 98 SE on her computer but the driver can
not be found by Windows. It is a PCI sound card. She is
unable to open the computer and look at the sound card to get
the information about it and it might be quite a while before
she can have someone do it for her.

She thinks it might be a Yamaha card. If I tell her to
install the Yamaha driver that Windows 98 SE has any guesses
if that could work?
