Tom.... I'm in Harrisburg as well...BTW>. For some reason, sound cards seem to be the hardest to install. I don't know how she is going to do it by herself. She can have someone sign her on the Internet, update the drivers for the sound card and be sure to check the box to search Windows update site and Windows98 CD, making sure the CD is in the drive. If all else fails, remove the items from he control panel/system and restart and see if the drivers will install of the Windows CD. Thanks Hugh, The problem is that she can't use the computer since the speech output uses the sound card so she can't get on the Internet. So she will still have to wait till someone can help her. She lives in DuBois PA and I live in Harrisburg PA a hundred and fifty miles or so away. In situations like this it is nice to have a hardware speech synthesizer especially one that uses a serial port but they are very expensive, over a thousand dollars. The computer is a custom built computer. I'll tell her about "http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en&p ageid=1" when she does get help and the helper doesn't want to open up the case. Thank you again, Tom ** Original Message From: Hugh Vandervoort ** >It's unlikely the Yamaha driver will do any harm, but >there's an easier way. Get Everest Home edition from >http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en&pa >geid=1 This should identify her sound card sufficiently to >locate a driver. If this is a standard PC we might be ale to >identify the Sound Card given the make and model. ============= PCWorks Mailing List ================= Don't see your post?
