Yeah, I love .pdrc too! The thing is that if we are in a situation where it is easier to edit the prefs 'manually' in a text editor, there is something seriously wrong with the UI and it should either be changed or removed, otherwise things can get very frustrating (particularly for new users). Anyhow, I just followed Patrice's suggestion, and it looks like a lot of the things that are being suggested for a potential prefs redesign are already implemented in desiredata...
