Just getting Pd on the Android phone would be easy, especially if you have rooted it. Basically, Pd-vanilla should build and run fine on Android with some minor tweaks for Android-specific macros. The only tricky part is that Pd can't use Android's ALSA, it must use the Java audio API via JNI. So that would take custom code.

Once its built and has the C->Java JNI audio interface, then it shouldn't be hard to package it up and distribute it as a regular Android app.

Hallo!

I just got an android phone (linux) and was actually quite impressed.
It is very user-friendly and there are also good development tools (I did not program something so far, but I will ...)

However, I don't know how easy it is to port PD to android phones. The general platform is in java (because it should run hardware independent on many phones) and it's also possible to program in C - but then you maybe have to adjust your code manually to different phones ... I don't know ...

For development on android see: http://developer.android.com/
BTW, there are also thousands of applications already, see e.g. http://www.cyrket.com/ , also some nice basic sound apps ...

Recently I looked at RjDj and was well impressed. Now I want to get a
mobile device on which to run Pd to do similar things. An iPhone is out
of the question because it's such a closed and locked up platform. I
started looking around at other devices, but that was a bit
overwhelming.
Maybe it's just because I'm new to the world of mobile computing and
have missed something, but I couldn't find a single mobile
hardware/software platform which is properly Free/open from top to
bottom (i.e., friendly to people who don't mind getting their hands
dirty), actively maintained, doesn't require me to screw myself over by
taking on a contract which I can't afford (internet tablet would be
ideal), and runs Pd. Is PDa still being developed?
Am I asking for too much? Or is what I want already out there?
