This must be something that Tcl/Tk is doing, tying into the system's theme. It could be changed with a one-liner GNU plugin. Here are some examples:

I have one suggestion to the developers: at least with kde the canvas
has the color of the current theme. It's ok, no problem. Can be
prettier then the ugly old pd, but... the objects also have to have
their color according to it because it somebody likes a dark theme
with dark background he/she will not be able to see the objects
because they are always black.

Sounds like it, but I haven't seen this for myself. I'm currently using
something pretty close to a default Ubuntu theme.

Hello,
Is the canvas color related to the desktop color scheme in a different
way now?
On ubuntustudio, with the default color scheme, the canvas is dark
gray instead of white.
I changed the my scheme (System>Preferences>Appearance) to
'Clearlooks', and now the canvas is -almost- white :)

        Hi all,

Pd version 0.43-0 test 2 is available on:

        http://crca.ucsd.edu/~msp/software.htm

This version features a comprehensive re-write of the GUI
        (almost entirely
        contributed by others!)

I'm aiming to get the final 0.43-0 out by Aug. 31.

        cheers
        Miller
