even if its a bit intrusive, maybe ask the student, if he has installed a 
cracked version of adobe software.
i have had students with similar problems and it turned out, that they had 
applied the adobe hack wrongly and killed their localhost.

it was well worth the embarrassement…after fixing pd did run and they could 
still use their adobe whatever.
