it also happens to me when working on my patch with 9 templates and
~63500 scalars. usually I have to force quit Pd instead of closing the
patch.
can also happen when editing complex templates - specially if scalars
are already created, with a much higher chance if the canvas is open. I
think it hardly happens if there are no scalars.
But these are also just general descriptions, no concrete cases.
I've occasionally had Pd crash after adding fields to data structures
in complicated patches... haven't found a simple crash example
though. If anyone can find a repeatable crash scenario I'd love to
see it :)

Okay, but the abstract doesn't make it safe enough to prevent
PureData from crashing on erroneous datastructures.
If you try to access an invalid pointer, you should only get an error
message (e.g. "stale pointer"). They are actually safe, assuming the
underlaying implementation is correct. If you experience crashes with
data structures, please open a bug report.
