Wonderful explanation. Now, maybe you can help me?
This started when I had a customer supplied pdf just yesterday that was rgb, we need cmyk. I've 'fixed' rgb photos within given pdf's on a regular basis with Acrobat 5, but it became obvious that this one wasn't going to work. When I was finally able to talk to the folks who had actually created the pdf, they had created the whole ad in PhotoShop, text and all. We did finally get the cmyk version, but I wanted to explain to them why their black text was going to 4 color black & was not going to register properly. We were to the wire on press, so we had to make do with what we had & hope for the best. But my question is: Was I wrong in telling them that their black text, if done in PhotoShop, would continue to separate onto all 4 plates? Is there a work around? We impose our pdf's in Quark to rip.
By way of explanation, our pre-press manager suddenly quit and I've been left to my own devices as to how to get things done. In the last 3 years (since I've been with the company), we've gone from paste up to digital pagination. My only training has been on the job, I realize that my terminology my not be correct for some of this. This list has been a great help to me.
Thanks in advance,
Jackie
