[PDF-Basics] spreads

Hi there In Acrobat 6, how can I control spreads? I often work with three-page articles, with the first two pages designed as a spread, followed by the third page. But Acrobat always makes the first page stand alone, and makes a spread of the second and third pages, which totally throws out the design.
