Jann, I don't understand your process. How do you save as an EPS to PDF? What O/S are you on? The proper way to make a PDF from Pagemaker, is either export it or make a PostScript file and distill. You need to select Press optimized settings for the best quality, or Screen if that's good enough for you. If someone uses the PDF writer to make the PDF, EPS graphics will be a screen version only, as the PDFWriter cannot read EPS files. You should not have to worry about the backgrounds of the original images. White will be white. When you distill a PostScript file, the RIP leaves text as vectors...thus preserving the readability. Photoshop is a program that works only with bitmaps. In Photoshop 5 and above you can save the file in a PDF format. But the text will be bitmapped, and perhaps hard to read. The file size will be significantly larger than one created through Distiller. Acrobat has migrated to version 6...there have been significant changes and improvements in the last five to six years.
