Thanks for the quick replies! Let me try to supply a little more
information:

* I'm using images I have scanned (on my HP x2000 Workstation/Epson
Expression 1680) at 300ppi, cleaned up, then resampled and resized to
120ppi. These are all grayscale, 8bit/channel, saved as .eps files.
* The end use is to have these pages digitally printed in-house on one
of our Xerox Docutex printers.
* Yes, I have tried printing a postscript file. After dragging and
dropping the .ps file onto the Distiller window, resulting in a
PostScript error:
"%%[Error: undefined; OffendingCommand:distillsave ]%%
%%[Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced.]%%"
The console.log reports in the last 9 lines, error [499] ***
_NSAutoreleaseNoPool( ): A variety of (numbered) objects of class NSCFD
number, dictionary or string "autoreleased with no pool in place, just
leaking."
* "Print to file', using the PDF file option, in the Printer options,
yields the same (low resolution) images.

Finally, Leonard, a little unexpected success this morning!
* Using Quark's new 'Export as PDF'** feature today, rendered the images
properly, but the filesize is HUGE. Quark file is 2.3MB, PDF file is
87.5MB! (I have used the trial version of a PdfCompressor tool that
gives me a more reasonable 16.6MB file.)

**I remember having recently heard users should avoid this method of PDF
creation, as this would create headaches later in the workflow... Was
this information a spoof?
