I was a guest at the Acrobat Developer's Conference in San Jose in the fall of 1999. John Warnock, founder and then chairman of Adobe Systems stood in front of God and the rest of us, and admitted and apologized that Adobe had found 11,000 bugs in v4. On another occasion, he called them a gazillion. I wonder who counted them? That's one boatload of bugs.

wonder I remember this from long ago. I think I had the same problem, but that
it went away with later versions of Acrobat.
Acrobat 4.0 (not 4.05) had
11,000 bugs. I'd upgrade to Acrobat 6.x, and see if you have the same problem.
