Last month I had a 350 page doc which I had hand photocopied from a 30 yr old typed manuscript. I had it scanned at 300dpi for AU$0.07cents per sheet. I am handling the OCR (which is painful in itself ;-), but the bulk scanning was ridiculously cheap.
