Optima in the format from the vendor has no license restrictions in regard to embedding etc. When embedding fail this signals that you are using a badly designed sub-version, likely created/converted by some font editing tool in TrueType format. Some of these tools, e.g. Fontographer, forgot to set an 'embedding type' tag correctly upon conversion to TrueType. Optima has been revised several times by the vendor since its initial release. Early versions of it sometimes failed to be downloaded correctly into the PostScript stream because the binary file (the .PFB file) held more information than some downloaders could handle. The native Type 1 installer on early Windows NT 4.0 versions also couldn't handle older Optima versions. Check the font version and/or contact the vendor for a revised version. Don't expect the revised edition to be free of charge. The same thing happens to me. Luckily I was working in Illustrator, so I just turned fonts into outlines. If you have access to ZapfHumanist font, it looks the same as Optima. __________________________________ Leland Maurello @ Charley T's Printing Co. 804.747.7467 | Fax: 804.747.8654 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Lewis Hamer Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2003 5:18 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [PDF] conversion problems with optima The PDF list is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com __________________________________________________________________ Hi We have rencently bought the Optima font, but when we convert a word file (we are on Windows 2000) containing Optima to pdf we get an error message saying that the file could not be converted because "Optima cannot be embedded due to licensing restrictions". We create a ps file by converting through our own printer then going through a watched folder to create a pdf. Is the problem related to the font itself not allowing it to be used in pdfs?? a setting within the printer?? a setting within the watched folder?? Can anyone please offer any help or advice for this problem?? Regards Lewis.
