We just had an issue with our magazine cover that looked like random jaggies. As it turned out it was a low res image. This is probably something completely different from your problem but I thought I would pass it along. We use Macs running OSX, Quark 6 and Acrobat 6. What we found was when we created a PDF file from Quark (print to post script file and distill) that contained a layered tiff file from Photoshop the Agfa rip our printer uses uses the low res quark preview instead of the hi-res tiff file. To complicate matters it is an intermittent problem, sometimes layered tiffs are fine, other times not. The resolution of the preview is 80 something dpi, so it looked better than a web image, but not as good as it should have. It looked ok except on straight lines set on an angle, and there was an overall softness about it. Probably doesn't help, but I thought I would put it out there.
