Hi all Overprints are dangerous, especially if you don't know how it's going to end up printing. If you have an ounce of understanding, then you should proof the job as separations. This would indicate exactly what type/colour will overprint/knockout. If you have a line of white type with a black dropshadow, then that black shadow should not be checked for overprint. I would strongly advise against using overprint if you don't understand. On the other hand, if you are using a line of black type (small font size) over a coloured panel/box then it would be advisable to check the fill of the black type as overprint for registration purposes. This can also be done for type over full colour pictures. I've seen many great designers great works, and I've also seen many of them in tears when it comes to overprint. Hope my 2 cents helps.
