You are talking about two different things here. Your monitor resolution is a fixed number like 72 ppi or 96 ppi. (Used to be that Macs displayed at 72 ppi and PCs at 96 ppi, don't know if that is still true). 1024 x 768 or 115 x 864 is the screen area displayed, it is not really the screen resolution. The Acrobat setting applies to the resolution not the screen area. If Acrobat 6 is set to use system settings it reads what your monitor resolution is and uses that, it's not overriding anything. If Acrobat 6 is set to use a Custom setting then Acrobat is overriding the system settings.
Hope that helps.

Hi Lynn -
So what you're saying then is that the system settings override Adobe Acrobat 6.0?
Max suggested to me that the recommended screen resolution for users is: 1024 x 768 or 1152 x 864.
Cordially,

100% display in versions of Acrobat before 6 were based on 72 ppi. In Acrobat 6 the default setting is to "Use system setting" which if you are viewing on a PC is probably 96 ppi. That is why there is a difference. It looks like this is a setting that is controlled by the user and is not one of the Initial View options that can be set for the PDF.
