Yes, the "Overprint EPS Black" box is checked in Quark, and the "Preserve
Overprint Settings" box is checked in Distiller. Quark items in my file
overprint correctly, but not placed Illustrator eps files. Overprinting is
correct if I print separations to Acrobat, but I want a composite PDF file
that will separate correctly. I am submitting PDF files to newspapers for
display advertising.

In the Quark print dialog box, under options, there's a checkbox to
overprint EPS black.

Do you have that checked?

I have a Quark 6.1 file that contains a placed Illustrator file ( I have
saved it as an Illustrator CS, Illustrator 10 and Illustrator 8 eps file
with same results). The illustrator file is a piece of compound path black
art with black set to overprint. It is placed in Quark with a Quark colored
box behind it (7M 10Y). I would like to create a PDF that retains the Black
Overprint of the Illustrator art. It is knocking out the Quark colored box
right now.
