With the ActiveX version of the FdfTk you don't need to worry about any of these, since COM uses Unicode internally, so the "right thing happens" in the produced FDF. Only with the C version do you need to know what you are doing.

Well, all text is in an encoding whether you set it or not. Is your text SJIS? UTF-8? UCS-2?? Acrobat wants UCS2/UTF-16 (aka two byte unicode) correctly prefixed by a BOM.
