Some pictures from this gallery I found to be particularly outstanding were
(in no significant order):
- "Bride" by Bruce Dayton - really lovely...could have been a painting, and
looks like one, in the thumbnail.
- "Solitude" by Collin Brendemuehl - I like the border you added, adding to
the overall feeling of the shot.
- "Malian Portrait" by Joseph Tainter - hard not to like this one.
- "Betsy on the Rocks" by Ed Mathews - looks like an album cover (in a good
way).
- "Very Innocent" by Larry Nicklaus - great use of DOF.
- "The Woods" by Luis Pinar - how is it beautiful? Let me count the ways.
With this one and "Child", you have shown that you can capture the beauty in
simple things, to me a great skill.
- " Grace, 1968 " by Shel Belinkoff. The metaphor of Grace turning away fom
the light, in combination with your text, is quite eloquent.
- " Standing Dead " by Paul M. Provencher - I love the warm light on the
trunk against the deep blue of the sky.
- " Daddy at Work " by Sid Barras - Nice, simple moment. Your brother looks
a bit like Harry Dean Stanton, one of my favorite actors, in that shot.
- " Casual Visitor " by Tom Wannenburg - I am always touched by shots like
this, so sharp you can feel the texture of each element in the frame.
I should really say that I liked most of the shots in the PUG, as usual, but
that these provoked the most visceral responses when I first looked at them.
I usually gauge photos not by their technical perfection, since I don't feel
qualified to judge on those criteria, but rather by the "Wow!" factor - that
first-glance response I get when I see a picture I wish I had had the vision
to capture.
Happy New Year, all!
