First, thanks to the people that have opined on my photo. I've never
seen the albums you mention, but it's nice to be in the same company..
I always pick only my favorite three photos for any PUG, but this month
was truly different in both quantity and quality. My picks are always more
based on my personal subjective bias and the nature of the subject than
anything else, so often the best or most difficult shots might never get my
mention. But that doesn't mean I don't see and appreciate them for the
great works they are. Here goes:
1'st Place: " Grace, 1968 " by Shel Belinkoff. I wish I had taken
this. I wish I could display it on the wall as mine. I wish I could see
this old fort and be there sometime. And most of all, I wish I knew Grace.
I can think of no way to improve this photo and it captures what I often
strive for most - mood, expression, simplicity, and truth.
2'nd Place: " Campbell Center, Mt. Carroll, IL " by Jim Meeks, USA.
Perfect lines, perfect focus, perfect DOF, perfect contrast for the mood.
This is another piece of fine art I'd love to have on my wall.
3'rd Place: " Polish Woman " by Darek Zukowski. Lucky indeed you are
to know this woman, with such beautiful eyes and the facial structure of a
model. And here's proof again that a 50mm lens used close can capture the
face in a beautiful way, if used wisely from an angle to accentuate the
right feature. I might scan/print it differently, but the image is strong
and worthy as is.
And now I hate to do this, but I've got to briefly mention just some of
the ones I had tied for all of the above (in no particular order). I don't
like doing this, because they are all excellent this month, but..
" The Driver Walked Away " by Byron Butler, New Jersey, USA.
Excellent. Quick! Have Bill change the description to a MZ-7 and sell the
image to Pentax for their ads!
"Very Innocent " by Larry D. Nicklaus. What a doll. And Great DOF.
May be I will try MF someday.
" Framed In Ice " by Mark Cassino, USA. I first saw this at
Photoblink. They loved it. All the viewers loved it. I love it. How
could anyone not?
" Barri Gotic, Barcelona, 1999. " by Juan J. Buhler, USA. Terrific
mood. The right film for the right time, place, and moment.
That's all.
Thanks,
Ed
