have you thought about using your enlarger stand as a copy stand? I
believe some let you do this, with a tripod screw fitting. If you have
a scale on the post it would presumably help, and of course it will be
a lot easier for height movements and fine adjustments. Also, if you
have a suitably sized light table for placing subjects on it will be
easier than a rather ad-hoc (but better than nothing) arrangement with
a tripod.
