I own it the manual focus version. It definently is a cheap, plasticy,
feeling lens be optically it seems quite good. I would recommend it as an
inexpensive macro.

I don't know how it stacks up to the Pentax SMC version because I don't
have the Pentax version to compore it to. The front element is recessed
into the barrel so flare isn't going to be a major problem with the lens.

It is a 1:1 adaptor. It is not an extension tube, but a closeup lens you
mount on the filter ring. It doesn't look multi coated so you could get
some flare problems with the adaptor. I haven't had any yet though.
BTW, the Pheonix is the same as the Vivitar, which is regarded as one of
Vivitar's best lenses out of their current lineup.
