Good resolving power doesn't directly affect sharpness, as Rob
said or as I wrote in my web page. Or it would not be too much
to say that there is no connection between resolving power itself
and visual sharpness.

You would not rate a certain lens as sharp if the lens had great
resolving power and awfully low contrast.

Do not confuse resolving power with sharpness.

Resolving power is only one factor/character of a certain lens.
That shows nothing more than resolving power.

BTW, I also noticed the relatively low resolving powers of long
lenses compared with those of short or normal lenses, though I
don't have the correct answer for that question yet.

As for FA77/1.8 Limited, it is really an excellent performer with
great sharpness, excellent contrast, and remarkable color rendition.
The only drawback I noticed is its relatively poor, but still good,
flare control for a modern Pentax lens.

Hope this helps.
