Hi, Wieland. I also have a SP500 and the same problem with the batteries for
it.
I don't know if there is a replace for the mercuric oxide that use for them.
I'm not using the camera now, but I used to buy Varta V400PX 1.35 V (made in
Germany) and the Energizer E400N 1.3 V (made in USA).
Maybe someone can point if a similar battery with the same voltage would
work.
