The M* 300/4 and its transmogrification into the A* 300/4 seems to
show that Pentax could release a short lifespan, low-volume M lens
shortly before the end of the M series and the start of the A series.
I don't see why they couldn't have transformed the M 35/1.4 into an A
lens; they did it quite successfully with several others.

The fact that some A lenses are still in the catalogue today also shows
that manual focus can live alongside autofocus.
