I would suggest "HTML 4 for the worldwide web" by Elizabeth
Castro as a good start. I have a copy of it beside my computer.
Sort of my PUG bible.
Don't be afraid to blatantly thieve bits of code from sites that
do what you want to do. HTML isn't too difficult. Java is a more
intensive, as it actually does stuff other than sit on the
screen like a dead fish. My next project, probably for next
winter is to learn some Java scripting.
