First impressions after doing a quick cruise through this
month's gallery.
I'm absolutely fascinated by Mark Dalal's "Smallscapes." I
don't know what the heck it is, but it just draws me into it.
Daphne's brick wall is also quite nice. The angle at which the
wall was shot adds some tension, and creates an interesting
pattern.
Ron Peter's "Toes" seems like the Photo of the Month. I love
it! It's sensitive, gentle, nicely composed, and offers a nice
range of deep black, from which the toes emerge, through good
looking whites. The blanket surrounding the toes adds greatly
to the image, it's folds drawing me in. The animal pattern is
perfect, and adds much to the portrait. I just want to reach
out, grab a toe, and wiggle it. This has got to be one of the
best "baby portraits" I've ever seen. While the comparison may
not seem obvious, I have to compare this photograph with W.
Eugene Smith's close up of Tomoko Uemura's hand in the Minimata
essay. Both photographs convey, through a small detail, a
moving story, and clearly show the photographer's involvement
with his subject. I'd love to have a print of Ron's
photograph. Bravo! Ron.
