In the case of two different bodies, I would consider the lesser
body as primarily a just in case backup, and as a "I don't want
to risk the more expensive body backup".
When I worked as a pro I had two identical bodies which were
used interchangeably. Sometimes I would have one film in one
and a different film in the other. Sometimes the same film in
both but different lenses so I could switch just by changing
cameras. This type of use obviously requires you to be carrying
both cameras on you all the time. Using the second body as a
pure backup (in case one failed) was really a necessary but
secondary use. The reason for using two identical cameras in
this case was so that I didn't have to think about which camera
I was using at the time.
A pro needs his equipment to as transparent as possible. An
amateur doesn't necessarily have this need, so there is no
reason you can't use your two bodies in the same manner as
mentioned above. However, because of the above experience, I
chose to use identical bodies even now.
