Another thought about D-76. You were asking about making large
enlargements. D-76 (and ID-11) are the types of developers
where you'll get a somewhat finer grain when used full strength,
but which offer greater sharpness when used 1:1 or even at 1:3
ratios. Usually greater sharpness is preferred in larger
photographs. Not all films look good at 1:3, but most are great
at 1:1. A film like Delta 100, for example, can take 1:3
ratios, but TX is usually better at 1:1.
May I humbly suggest you grab a copy of "The Film Developing
Cookbook" and read it through from cover to cover. There is a
section which covers D-76 nd its many attributes and
inconsistencies, and also many good suggestions for other
developers and film combinations, as well as discussion of good
techniques. Remember the old adage: The more you know, the
better your luck.
