Hi Brent
I'm not quite sure which films you are refering too. But Im sure they are
too slow for many things/no tripod:
If you are not too experienced you should not shoot proffessional film,
since they must be exposed very, very accurate and stored at low/sertain
temperatures. Use a good rugged, slide film like Fuji Sensia or Kodak Elite.
(This advice was given to me by two pro photographers, who had just crossed
Africa (Cairo-CapeTown) on motorbikes). If you're out for wild life, use
fast film, because the animals are the most active at sundown, not during
the daytime. I just spent three weeks in South Africa (december/summertime).
I only brought 100ASA film. I had to have some of them pushed to 400ASA,
loosing sharpness. Even 400ASA is too slow for some lenses. Bring some
400ASA and even faster film. Use FAST lenses. Go for lenses like 1.4-2.8.
Zooms like 3.5-5.6 you should leave at home, but bring a P&S camera with
with a zoom, loaded with print film for the "family album".
Good luck!
Jens
