My speculation: Pentax has decided to re-enter the pro 35 mm. market
through the digital version of the MZ-S. It's my understanding that
photojournalists are going digital, and many others as well. Why put R&D
money into a declining market? If I'm correct, Pentax's reasoning makes
sense. And that may mean that future top camera bodies will be digital.
