I would like to see as much information as possible. Since this is a voluntary list, I
don't think there's a privacy issue. And if anyone was concerned about protecting
their identity and their whereabouts, he or she wouldn't have responded.

Subject: Geography poll: cities or no cities?
Now that I've gone through all of the trouble of asking for and recording
cities, I'm having second thoughts over whether or not to include
them. *L* And I can't even blame it on Monday, since that was
yesterday. :) So, I'm asking as a public topic of conversation (you
don't have to reply privately to me for this one), should I include cities
in the data, or not? I'm not talking about the general summary that I'll
post to the PDML, as that will only be broken down by country and
(sometimes) state/province and will not have any names attached to
it. I'm talking about the more detailed info that I'll mail directly to
everyone who submitted their location for the list. What I want to know
is whether the info should look like this:
Canada, Manitoba, Winnipeg; Chris Brogden ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
or like this:
Canada, Manitoba; Chris Brogden ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
In countries which don't have provinces or states, I think it would be
more convenient to have cities listed, since it saves you the trouble of
having to e-mail everyone in the vicinity and ask them what city they're
in if you ever want to get together. At the same time, there is always a
bit of a security risk associated with having your city known, so that has
to be assessed as well. What does everyone think? Cities, or no
cities? Remember, you'll never have to have anyone see any information
that you're not comfortable with sharing. If we do decide to go with
cities and you don't want people to see yours, just send me mail at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and let me know, and I'll remove your city (or
anything else you want me to) from the list. Thanks!
