I find it invaluable when I try to focus on a horizontal-stripes pattern or
blank wall - the AF is even faster and more accurate then me focusing on
blank wall using MF body!
Also it's quite good in the dark.

BTW, is there a way to turn off RTF of SFXn? Cause the AF-assist works only
via its RTF, and when I pop RTF up, it fires when I fire the shutter.
Except selecting higher than X-synch, is there a way? I would like it for
available light AF-assist (sometimes more accurate than my eyes via the
crappy af-camera viewfinder), but don't want flash, even RTF.
