group mates,

I recently purchased a second hand MX body(the reason I joined
the group).
It's been with me a month. It was bought brand new by the
previous owner back in 1980. According to him, it was primarily
used for taking snaps of family occasions and vacations. He never
had to have it serviced. It went into the closet back in 1998 to give
way to the previous owner's canon ElanIIE.

Since i bought it , it had to go thrice to the camera technician:
FIRST to repair the hot-sync.(because it was not firing),
SECOND - to repair the reflex mirror which stopped swinging up,
and ,
THIRD- to repair the hot-sync again because it firing but it's not in
sync with the shutter-

Question, are these common problems with the MX body? How
are they prevented?
